Norma Lysle “Mickey” McKinzie, 91, formerly of Bloomington, died peacefully Sunday (Oct. 22, 2017) at Villa Health Care East, Sherman.
Her funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Church, Bloomington. A private burial service will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to Central Catholic High School or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
She was born Aug. 7, 1926, the daughter of Thomas S. and Edna Anderson McCurley. She married John F. McKinzie on April 19, 1952, in Springfield. He died June 10, 1981.
Survivors include two sons, Mark (Kathy), Carmel, Ind., and William (Cathleen), Edwards, Colo., and one daughter, Laurie (Monroe) McWard, Springfield. Her grandchildren include Katie (Scott) Andres, Fishers, Ind.; Meg (Pat) Roth, Vancouver, Wash.; Chrissy (Matt) Garrison, Uniontown, Ohio; John McWard, Springfield; Maureen McWard, Santa Barbara, Calif.; Jack McKinzie, Greenville, S.C.; and Andrew McKinzie, Edwards, Colo. Her great-grandchildren include Julia, Luke and Avery Andres and Lucy Roth.
A Springfield native, she graduated from Springfield High School and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she was a member of Delta Gamma sorority.
She was a member of the Society of Sponsors of the United States Navy, having christened the USS Springfield during World War II. She was active in fundraising activities for St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary, Central Catholic High School, past president of the Day Care Board and was a longtime member of Clio Club. Throughout the years, she especially cherished all of her wonderful times with family and friends.
